Add or View Managed Applications for Enhanced Monitoring

Use Managed Applications to view, configure, or add applications to be managed by Aternity, which adds more performance monitoring for those applications.

A managed application has enhanced monitoring over a regular discovered application, because it adds default activities which track its launch times, resource consumption (PRC), and you can further add your own custom activities. For managed apps on Apple Macs, Aternity monitors the PRC only. Regular discovered applications only monitor the default performance measures, like application health, UXI, wait times and so on.

Managed applications with enhanced monitoring
Field Description
Type

Displays the type of application, which can be a desktop (), web () or mobile app ().

Application Name

Displays the name of the application as it appears in the dashboards. Select the name to view or edit its activities. It displays a lock for predefined applications, as you cannot removed or edit them.

Process Name

Displays the name of the Windows process, base URL or package name, which Aternity is monitoring as a managed application.

Rollout

Displays the group of devices which monitor this entry:

  • Test Group indicates that Aternity only monitors this entry for users or devices in the test group.

  • All Users indicates that Aternity monitors this entry for all reporting devices.

  • Custom indicates that Aternity monitors this entry for users or devices in a custom group that you created.

  • Multiple indicates that Aternity monitors this application for several different groups, which are assigned to different activities of the application.

Users

The number of unique users who have been running the application in the past hour. This is refreshed every minute.

Activities

The number of business activities defined for this application.

This not a measure of the number of activities performed at present. It is only the number of defined activities for this application.

If several activities for the same application have the same name, they are counted as one business activity. For example, two Open activities, one for each version of your application, are counted as one in this field.

Last Modified

Displays the date and time when this entry in the list of monitored applications was last changed.

Aternity comes with default predefined activities out of the box, for popular business applications. For example, there are many predefined activities for the applications in Microsoft Office, like Outlook's open mail or send mail. There are predefined activities for Acrobat Reader, Microsoft Office 2007, 2010, 2013 and 2016 (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel, all in English), Microsoft Skype for Business and Citrix WorxMail for mobile devices. You can view a comprehensive list of predefined activities (learn more).

You can add any application to be managed: desktop applications, web applications, or mobile apps (iOS and Android), running locally or in virtual environments.

Add a Windows, web or mobile application with extra monitoring as managed applications

By default, Aternity monitors the resource usage of popular web browsers (Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer v9, 10, 11 and Google Chrome) to monitor web apps which run inside them.

Check it is not already managed, by searching for it (or its process name, base URL, or package name) in the top right.

Add an application as managed

To monitor launch times and resource consumption (PRC), add it as a managed application.

To assign a different display name to a discovered desktop application, add it as a managed application.

To edit the properties of a managed application, like changing the process name (Windows), base URL (web) or package name (mobile)
