Table of contents Express Setup for the Aternity Oracle Database Server Use the express setup of the Aternity Oracle Database to quickly and easily set up the Aternity Oracle Database Server for trial and small deployments. Even if you are not a licensed Oracle DBA, you can easily complete the express setup of the Aternity Oracle Database. Express setup creates the Aternity database automatically The Aternity Oracle Database Server is an Oracle database which hosts the Aternity system settings, data model and performance data. The express database setup creates an Aternity database in Oracle 12.2.0.1 for trial or small deployments. Important: The express database setup may take up to several hours. It may sometimes appear non-responsive, but it is working in the background. The setup may open more than one command window at a time. Do NOT close any of the setup windows until the setup has completed. Before you begin The Aternity Oracle Database Server must be the first server you install when setting up Aternity on-premise, before you install the Aternity Dashboard Server or the Aternity Management Server. The express database setup requires the following specifications: Attribute Requirement Hardware Hardware specifications depend on the size of your Aternity on-premise deployment. Choose the sizing and hardware specifications for your deployment size. Hard disk for express database setup of the Aternity Oracle Database Server The express database setup requires: System disk (C drive) A logical or physical drive other than the system disk, with the free space required for your deployment size Operating system for Aternity Oracle Database Server The express database setup requires Windows Server 64 bit 2012 R2 or Windows Server 64 bit 2016. Set the date and time formats to Control Panel > Regions > Formats > English (United States). Network Ensure this server has a static IP v4 address, and that you open the required ports. Time zone Synchronize all Aternity components to have the same date, time AND time zone. Permissions Ensure you have local administrator privileges on this computer. ProcedureStep 1 Log in to the computer as a local administrator. To verify you are a local administrator on this computer, not a domain administrator, open the System control panel, select Advanced system settings > Computer Name, and confirm the Change button is active. Step 2 Download the Silent Install 12.2.0.1 (Oracle 12.2.0.1 package) or 12.1.0.2 (Oracle 12.1.0.2 part 1 and Oracle 12.1.0.2 part 2) packages or the Silent Install 18.0.0.0 package to a temporary directory, such as d:\tmp. Package Files Silent Install 12.2.0.1 Silent Install 12.1.0.2 Contains the express database setup script files, including: Install.bat is the main file you launch to create a new Aternity database. It silently runs the Oracle software setup, and then creates and configures the database. aternity.dbt is the database template file that contains the settings to create the Aternity database. You choose a *.dbt file, such as aternity_12c_medium.dbt, based on your deployment size, and rename it to aternity.dbt, which the setup script uses. custom.sql stops some unnecessary Oracle jobs from running. db_install.rsp is the response file that automatically provides parameters needed for the installation process. The 12.1 DB Templates folder which contains the database template files for the possible deployment sizes. Oracle 12.2.0.1 Oracle 12.1.0.2 part 1 and Oracle 12.1.0.2 part 2 Contains the original database setup and configuration files for Oracle 12.2.0.1 or 12.1.0.2, as supplied by Oracle. Silent Install 18.0.0.0 Contains the original database setup and configuration files for Oracle 18c as supplied by Oracle. Step 3 Unpack each setup package in its own directory on the Oracle Database Server, where the path does not contain any spaces or special characters. Make a note of both paths, such as d:\tmp\silent and d:\tmp\database. Step 4 Create a destination directory for the Oracle software, such as D:\Oracle, and one for the Oracle database itself, such as d:\oradata. The Oracle software hosts and runs the database, though the software and the database can have different pathnames. Step 5 Open a command prompt as an administrator. Search for cmd on your computer, right-click and select Run as Administrator. Open the computer's command prompt as an administrator Step 6 Run the express database setup by navigating to your temporary download directory, and enter install.bat. Provide the requested path information. Path Description Oracle software installation directory Enter the path to the database folder you downloaded, such as d:\tmp\database. Oracle software destination directory Enter the target destination path for the Oracle software, which hosts and runs the database. The default is d:\oracle, which creates D:\oracle\product\<version>. Oracle database files Enter the target destination path for the Aternity Oracle database. The default is d:\oradata. Tip: You can install the Oracle software and the Oracle database to the same path. Separate paths are recommended when you have a need for improved performance. Step 7 Confirm the settings and enter y. The script opens a new window and starts setting up Oracle with this database configuration. The express database setup may take up to several hours. It may sometimes appear non-responsive, but it is working in the background. The setup may open more than one command window at a time. Do NOT close any of the setup windows until the setup has completed. Tip: If you receive an Oracle Error 534, Cannot add user to application launch ACL, you can safely ignore it. Step 8 Once the setup has completed, press Enter to close the Oracle setup window and continue creating the Aternity database. This closes the secondary window which it opened earlier. The express setup succeeded You can check these logs after the installation, for example, if you encounter errors: Aternity's express database setup log, d:\Oracle_install.log Oracle's software installation log, D:\oracle\product\12.2.0.1\cfgtoollogs\oui Oracle's database creation log, D:\oracle\cfgtoollogs\dbca\aternity Step 9 In the new command window that opens, define passwords for the two mandatory Oracle database users. Every Oracle database must have the following two users defined: Enter passwords for the Oracle default users Tip: Oracle's setup has a known issue where if you press backspace here, the prompt disappears. If you made a mistake when entering this password, continue pressing backspace to remove the whole password, then retype it and press Enter. Field Description SYS Enter the password for the mandatory internal user called SYS, which owns the core base data in the database. It has SYSDBA privileges. SYSTEM Enter the password for the SYSTEM user which you can use as a proxy user to access the database as SYSDBA. Verify success with the message 100% complete. View the progress of creating the Aternity database Step 10 Check the status of the setup in the log file. Open <setup path>\cfgtoollogs\dbca\aternity\aternity.log and search for Database creation complete, to confirm it was successful. If required, the setup log for the underlying Oracle software is located in D:\Oracle_install.log. Step 11 Check the status of the Oracle services. Open the Windows Task Manager or the Windows Services to check the status of the Oracle services. Verify it displays the five Oracle services, four Running and one Stopped. Check the status of the Oracle services in the Windows Task Manager Step 12 Check the compatibility of the internal structure of the database by verifying the database.
