Getting Started for New Aternity Users (Product Tours)

For a new user of SteelCentral Aternity™, it offers product tours from a panel, which guide you through some of the main dashboards to showcase the product's features and value.

You can monitor the performance of Windows devices (laptops, desktops, tablets), Apple Mac devices (desktops, laptops), mobile devices (iOS, Android) and virtual sessions (VDI and virtual applications).

New users can tour Aternity to see its value
  • Select Applications to see how Aternity helps application owners who need to monitor one or more applications.

  • Select Desktop Services to see how IT services can use Aternity to monitor all devices and applications across the enterprise.

  • Select Service Desk to see how Aternity can help IT help desk personnel who receive calls from users.

Tip

If you are a new administrator deploying Aternity in your organization, follow the steps for new Aternity administrators.

Before you begin

If you do not yet have SteelCentral Aternity™, sign up for a free trial. Then start by deploying Aternity as a new administrator.

Procedure

  1. Step 1 Open a browser and sign in to Aternity.

  2. Step 2 Select Help > Product tours to explore Aternity's value.

    You can view either demo data or real data if you have devices already reporting performance by running the Agent for End User Devices.

    Applications

    View tours about monitoring and troubleshooting an application's performance on live dashboards.

    Desktop Services

    View tours about the performance of multiple devices across the organization (IT Services), when you step back and see the bigger picture.

    Service Desk

    View tours designed for Help Desk people who respond to problems from specific end users.

  3. Step 3 In the top left corner, select Main Menu > and then choose the action you want to perform.

    Use SteelCentral Aternity™ to monitor every device and application from the end user viewpoint in real-time, to detect any performance issues.

    Troubleshoot (learn more)

    Troubleshooting a problem requires hunting for clues which cause the problem. Aternity's direct visibility on the end user device brings extraordinary clarity, by presenting data which is only available on the device itself, using intuitive and flexible dashboards to examine and isolate the cause of the problem.

    Validate (learn more)

    When you change application deployments, network infrastructures or devices in your enterprise, it can have a massive impact. Use SteelCentral Aternity™ to assess and quantify that impact, to validate if your change brought better or worse performance for end users.

    Analyze (learn more)

    You can test your own troubleshooting theories by finding common threads (correlations) between an application's performance and two or more attributes. Alternatively, you can use the Analyze (Advanced) dashboards to completely customize your layout from a blank canvas, for the ultimate flexibility to display complex correlations between as many attributes as you need.

    Inventory (learn more)

    It's easy to locate a user or device and view the performance details, by performing one of several key searches.

  4. Step 4 Use the search box in the top bar to quickly start monitoring a device hostname, username or application, or enter the name of a dashboard.

    To change the home page to open Aternity on a different dashboard by default, select Set as homepage in the top bar.
