Analyze BSOD Trends and Make Better Decisions (Experience Insights)

Aternity proactively supplies you with Experience Insights from the collected data. From the Insights Front Page, select the title of the insight you are interested to investigate and open its respective dashboard. Use the Hours Between BSODs vs. Benchmark dashboard for deeper analysis of blue screens across organization and devices' performance improvement.

Aternity provides a dashboard for each insight with a competitive analysis and allows you to measure your company's performance against similar businesses over time. Even if benchmark analysis shows that your organization performance is excellent and much better than others, you may still have some problematic devices and Aternity informs you what they are, so that you can take care of those devices' health.

Investigate the insight


  1. Step 1 Open a browser and sign in to Aternity.
  2. Step 2 Select Main Menu > Insights > Aternity Experience Insights.
  3. Step 3 Click on the title of the insight you want to investigate.

    Field Description
    Severely Impacted Devices Rate

    Displays percentage of impacted devices.

    The device considered as impacted if there were at least 3 BSODs in the past 90 days and at least 1 BSOD during the last 30 days.

    If there is no error during the last 30 days, the device is no longer considered as impacted.

    The gauge indicates how good or bad your rate is compared to other Aternity customers, what percentage of industry benchmark you currently meet. For example, 80% of companies have higher rate of impacted devices and 20% of companies perform better than you and have lower amount of impacted devices.
    Severely Impacted Devices Rate Trend

    Displays the trend of impacted devices rate: How many devices out of total are impacted by an issue.

    This widget displays also a benchmark line on the graph.

    Top 100 Severely Impacted Devices

    Displays the devices that Aternity has detected as the most affected by that issue (with the highest number of BSODs) and potential productivity gain if you fix that problem.

    Potential Productivity Gain means how many hours the company can save after fixing the issue on the most impacted devices.

    Blue screens should not happen under normal conditions. One BSOD that happens from time to time, once in several months is considered normal. Aternity calculates 15 minutes as wasted time per one BSOD beyond the first one. Potential Productivity Gain shows how many hours the company will save if it reduces the number of BSODs to one. For example, 5 BSODs on a device in three months cost organization one working hour (15 min x 4 BSODs).

    Hours Between BSODs

    This widget shows that you encounter a blue screen every X hours.

    The gauge indicates what percentage of industry benchmark you currently meet. For example, 80% of companies have less hours between failures (higher frequency of blue screens) and 20% of companies have more hours between failures (lower frequency of blue screens).

    Displays your trend over time, as well as the industry trend.

    Your company trend is orange , and the benchmark trend is blue .

    The benchmark trend shows the middle 50% of values when ordered from lowest to highest (interquartile range - the difference between the 75th and 25th percentile).

    It is possible that your trend is very positive, that your company fixed the issues and improved performance, but still at some point on the graph you are worse than benchmark even though you have shown better performance than in the past. That means that the industry trend also changed and improved much more than your organization.

    Productivity Improvements
    This widget displays 2 calculations:
    1. The amount of hours organization can save if fixing issues on all devices considered as severely impacted (listed in the Top X Severely Impacted Devices widget)
    2. The amount of hours organization can save if devices' performance increases to the 75th percentile of the benchmark

    The blue shows the impacted devices, and green shows the rest.

    Since (b) includes (a), the graph displays (a) and the rest (b-a). For example, a company can save 100 hours just by reaching the 75th percentile of benchmark (b) and 40 hours by reducing BSOD frequency on the listed severely impacted devices (a), so the pie will show 40 & 60.
