Key Task: Create a Custom Dashboard to Analyze Activities (Analyze Business Activities (Advanced))

Use Analyze Business Activities (Advanced) to customize the dashboard to display any data you need to investigate your own theories on any managed application's activity performance. Add your own columns, design your own fields with custom calculations, and apply them to any of the attributes in the system which you want to examine.

Tip

For advanced analysis of data for all applications, including discovered applications with no defined activities, use the Analyze Applications (Advanced) dashboard.

If the data you need for your investigation is not provided in the set of columns displayed in any other Analyze dashboard, use this screen to customize and tailor the dashboard to display the fields you need to check the data you need.

The Analyze Business Activities (Advanced) dashboard

There are endless ways you can use the data from this dashboard to check almost anything you want to investigate.

For example, you can compare the response times of opening mails between Microsoft Outlook in different versions of Microsoft Office, to check whether Samsung computers in your Tokyo office are quicker with the newer version.

Procedure

  1. Step 1 Open a browser and log in to Aternity.
  2. Step 2 Select Main Menu > Analyze > Business Activities (Advanced).
Accessing the Analyze Business Activities (Advanced) dashboard
  3. Step 3 To customize the dashboard further, to add your own fields with custom calculations, and to add columns, select Edit in the top bar of the window.

For example, you can easily turn the bar chart into a trend graph by dragging Hour of Day from the sidebar to the Columns section, and selecting Show Me to view a trend graph.

Edit the look and data of the dashboard to view the trend across time

As another example, you can create your own custom data item called Is a lab Laptop which returns True only if the device's hostname starts with the characters LAB_, as in LAB_Lenovo1. After you create this data type, you can create a filter to limit this dashboard's view to laptops for the lab only.
