What's New in Agent 12.0.x for Windows

Agent for End User Devices 12.0.x Adds More Monitoring. Be among the first to try Aternity's enhanced monitoring with the new Agent 12.0.x.

The Agent for End User Devices monitors end user experience by measuring device and application performance. It is a small background utility which runs on each monitored device, and reports its data to Aternity.

You can deploy the Agent throughout your enterprise to collect data from devices and report to Aternity. With Agent 12.0.x, you can:

  • Initiate remediation remotely on end-user devices

  • Initiate remediation actions silently on end-user devices (without end-user confirmation)

  • Sign remediation script with certificates from your Trusted Publishers store

  • Monitor managed applications in Firefox ESR 60.4 and above


Due to an infrastructure change in build 1903 of Windows 10, the Aternity Agent version 12.0.1 can miss the beginning of some activities, causing minor inconsistencies in reporting. To solve this issue, a new Agent version 12.0.2 has been released.

Enhanced Security with Agent 12.0.6 (General Availability)

Agent 12.0.6 provides additional fixes and enhanced security. It includes all functionality from older 12.0.x releases.

Validation Tool Enhancements (starting Agent 12.0.5)

Agent 12.0.5 provides usability enhancements for the PowerShell scripts Validation Tool.
  • The Signing Policy tab is used for validating any PowerShell script file, Remediation or PowerShell monitor.

  • Validation tool checks script encoding (Windows UTF-8 encoding only) and that there are no forbidden characters in scripts (a sequence of CRCRLF characters is not allowed).

Enhanced Monitoring in Firefox ESR 60.4 (Agent 12.0.x)

Agent for End User Devices 12.0.x provides full web monitoring support starting Firefox ESR 60.4.


Firefox ESR will ignore its local policy because Aternity Agent uses Group Policy for deployment and the Group Policy takes priority over the local configuration file (learn more). Starting Agent 12.0.4, the issue is resolved by adding a SafeGuard for FireFox local policy file. The Agent will not deploy FireFox if the local policy file is detected.

Initiate Remediation Remotely on End User Devices (Agent 12.0.x)

In order to reduce the number of IT tickets and improve user experience, Aternity developed the Remediation feature. Remediation allows IT help desk personnel to identify issues that can cause problems and remotely fix them before they are escalated. Running remediation actions remotely resolves performance issues on end user Windows devices by one-click reducing the problem-solving time and the risk of human errors. Remediation actions can be triggered automatically based on Service Desk Alerts, manually by IT help desk personnel or from external systems using REST API. For example, identify that a user has low disk space and trigger the Empty Recycle Bin action before end user is out of disk space, or stop Windows service that should not run on the device.

Additional Enhancements (Agent 12.0.x)

  • The PowerShell Validation utility alerts if the script file format is not UTF-8.

  • Support for PowerShell scripts

  • Support for Remediation script input parameters

  • Support for creating custom health events and assigning automatic remediation actions to these events

  • Support for the Trusted Root Certification Authorities store

  • Agent reports a special event in case custom health events are not properly raised


Definitions of Release States for Aternity Agent
  • Beta – This is an Agent version which will not become generally available, but you can request it from the Aternity Beta Team and use it to evaluate new features.

  • Release Candidate (RC) – This is a new Agent version which Aternity intends to make available for customers in the near future. You may request and deploy it to a handful of endpoints to try its features.

  • Controlled Availability (CA) – This is a production-ready, supported Agent with which you may start a partial rollout to your organization. It's available upon request. Please contact Aternity SaaS Administration.

  • General Availability (GA) – The latest version of this Agent is available by default to all environments. For older GA versions, contact Aternity SaaS Administration.
